Chinanews, August 12th. According to a comprehensive report from the US "World Journal", the 2020 census report of the United States was released on December 12, and the ethnic population data was subdivided for the first time.

Analysts pointed out that for the first time in the history of the census, there will be a decline in the white population, and for the first time the proportion of the total U.S. population will fall below 60%. The majority of the population under the age of 18 will be non-white.

William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution, said the new census data confirms that the white population has fallen eight years ahead of previous forecasts.

Frey also predicted that this trend will continue. By 2045, the white population ratio will drop below 50%, and there will be no racial majority by then.

Between 2015 and 2060, the Hispanic and Asian populations are expected to approximately double, and the multi-racial population may triple due to immigration and birth reasons.

The Census Bureau has updated the 2010 Census every year for the past five years and has estimated that the white population is declining, and that the national population growth comes from people of color.

The total state population in the April 2020 census shows that the population of the United States has only increased by 7.4% in the past ten years; since the beginning of the 1790 census, only the ten years in the 1930s have been below this rate.

The states with the fastest population growth are in the west and south, and you can see the influx of people from other countries and other states.

Data estimates from 2016 to 2020 show that all population growth during this period came from people of color. Hispanics have the largest and most stable growth rate. The proportion of the population has doubled in the past 30 years, reaching nearly 20%. Hispanic population growth accounts for almost half of the national population growth, driving half of the population growth in more than a dozen states including Texas, Florida, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada.

The Asian population accounted for about 3% of the total population in 1990, and the proportion in the 2020 census report has almost doubled to 6%.

The population of African descent accounts for about 12.5%.

Whites are expected to account for more than half of the population growth in five U.S. states and the District of Columbia; the white population of 26 U.S. states has declined; in six states, including Nevada and Maryland, the majority of the population is of color.

At the same time, the U.S. population will be more aging than in the past; it is estimated that the population under the age of 18 in 31 states in the U.S. has declined since 2010.

This kind of transformation in which the older generation is "much more white" than the younger generation is called the "cultural generation gap" by Frey. As white baby boomers retire, minorities will drive all growth in the American workforce. Non-white babies born in 2011 have surpassed white babies for the first time, and the nation’s child population growth in the past 20 years has been dominated by Hispanics, Asians, and multiracial people.
