(Fighting against new crown pneumonia) Delta epidemic continues to spread, Phnom Penh extends "curfew" measures

China News Agency, Phnom Penh, August 12 (Reporter Ouyang Kaiyu) With the increase in the number of cases infected with the Delta Covid-19 mutant strain, Cambodia’s anti-epidemic situation continues to be severe. In order to further curb the spread of the virus, the Phnom Penh City Government announced an extension of the “curfew” measure.

According to a report from the Cambodian Ministry of Health on the 12th, 455 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia were reported in the country on the same day, 677 new cases were cured and discharged, and 20 new cases died.

Among the newly confirmed cases, 374 were community-transmitted infections, and 81 were imported confirmed cases, most of them from Thailand.

As of now, a total of 83,000 cases have been confirmed nationwide, 78,000 cases have been cured, and 1,634 cases have died.

In order to curb the spread of the Delta epidemic, the Cambodian government previously announced the launch of a two-week "National Anti-epidemic Action" from July 29 to August 12.

During the national anti-epidemic action period, various regions in Cambodia adopted anti-epidemic measures such as "curfews" and bans on gatherings based on actual conditions.

Due to the continuous emergence of more cases of infection with the Delta new crown variant strain, on the evening of August 11, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen issued a decree and decided to extend the "National Anti-epidemic Action" to fight the epidemic.

Subsequently, various provinces and cities introduced new epidemic prevention regulations.

According to the latest regulations of the Phnom Penh City Government, the city will extend the "curfew" until August 26.

According to official regulations, during the implementation of the "curfew", schools, entertainment cities, museums and other places in high-risk areas must continue to be closed, and the city prohibits gatherings of more than 15 people.

It is known that Phnom Penh is also the “severely affected area” of the Delta epidemic. Many neighborhoods and markets in the urban area have been strictly blocked due to the outbreak. The infected people include market vendors, returning workers, medical personnel and other groups.
