According to him, "the Belarusian authorities are responsible for the deterioration of relations between the US and Belarus." 

At the same time, the representative of the State Department added that American diplomats will continue to interact with the leaders of the Belarusian opposition, regardless of where they are.

Earlier, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry suggested that the United States reduce the number of the embassy in Minsk by September 1.

On August 9, it was reported that the US Treasury imposed sanctions on 23 individuals and 21 organizations in Belarus.

Later, the Foreign Ministry of Belarus said that the department "strongly condemns the unilateral coercive measures taken by the United States of America, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Canada on August 9 against the Republic of Belarus."
