• Like last year, the great Braderie de Lille was canceled, but replaced by a clearance sale of local traders.

  • This time, businesses will have the right to unpack on the sidewalks.

  • The health pass will not be compulsory for bargain hunters, but the wearing of a mask will.

This time, it won't be the biggest flea market in Europe.

From September 3 to 5, the city of Lille is offering, like last year, a clearance sale of local traders to replace the traditional clearance sale canceled at the end of June for the second year in a row, due to the Covid-19 epidemic, we learned this Wednesday, by a press release.

This new-look clearance sale will be held in the pedestrianized streets for the occasion of the perimeter of the city center, Old Lille and rue Gambetta, “as well as throughout the rest of the city for the streets that allow the application. of a strict sanitary protocol ”, specifies the town hall.

Mandatory mask wearing

Health situation requires, some restrictions are required: unpacking only to the right of the facades of shops, leaving access to them, respect of a central traffic lane of at least 4.5 m to allow the passage of vehicles rescue, payment outside if possible, but also obligation to wear a mask for visitors to the sectors concerned.

"The bars and restaurants keep the ephemeral terraces already allocated to support each professional in this gradual exit from an unequaled health crisis", also indicates the town hall.

“About fifty businesses have already applied to participate in this event,” assures Martine Aubry, the mayor of Lille.

What is close to my heart is to help traders as much as possible in this difficult period and that we find a little cheerfulness in the city, while scrupulously respecting the sanitary rules.

"

Musical entertainment and the fun fair

An entertainment program will be offered in the streets, "around mobile musical activities, but also around comics, in particular at the Museum of Fine Arts".

As usual, the booksellers will be present at the Vieille Bourse and, this year, the funfair will be in full swing on the Champ de Mars.

"Unless the regulations change by then, there will be no need for the sanitary pass", underlines Martine Aubry who hopes "to find the flea market atmosphere".
