The Lapland Trail will be inaugurated in the autumn of this year and is a development of the state trail system in the mountains, which includes the Kung Trail.

- Kungsleden will keep its route from Hemavan to Abisko, but the Lapplandsleden will cut it so you can go all the way from Abisko to Borgafjäll, says Johan Lindberg, mountain coordinator at the County Administrative Board in Västerbotten.

Should not interfere with reindeer husbandry

The idea with the new trail is to offer hiking or skiing with great nature experiences without disturbing reindeer husbandry in the area too much.

- I think the new new trail was nice.

It offers rich nature and cultural experiences, but also great fishing opportunities, for example at Joesjö.

How long does it take to walk this route for those who may not be so used to hiking?

- It is difficult to answer, it depends on who it is that goes.

But if you want to enjoy, take somewhere between a week and 14 days so you have time to stop and look around.

Great interest in the new trail

There are four overnight cabins along the trail, but it is required that you bring a tent for certain parts of the route.

- But we have supplemented with three emergency cabins where you can also stop to rest.

But you should only spend the night there in an emergency, says Johan Lindberg.

How many hikers will walk the new trail is difficult to say, there are no good measurements for hiking trails in Sweden.

- It is difficult to make an estimate, but we know that there is a great interest in mountain hiking and also for our new trail, says Johan Lindberg.

Anyone who wants to hike all the way from Abisko to Borgafjäll has a distance of 590 km in front of them.
