August 11, 2021 - New charges against Alexei Navalny. The Russian Investigative Committee finds him guilty of having created "a non-profit organization - namely the FBK or Anti-Corruption Foundation - which violates the rights of citizens". In June, FBK was branded an extremist organization on the basis of a new ad-hoc law.

For the Committee, FBK's activities "entailed inciting citizens to commit illegal acts". Navalny, Meduza writes, now faces a fine of up to 200,000 rubles, hard labor, limitations on freedom or imprisonment for up to three years. These new charges could lead to an extension of his detention period in Pokrov Prison.

The dissident was sentenced on February 2 to two years and eight months for a fraud case dating back to 2014. In another trial he was also convicted of defamation against a WWII veteran.
