August 11, 2021 On the day of the Liberation of Florence, Gkn employees together with Anpi take to the streets against layoffs. Almost 2,000 people gathered tonight in Piazza della Signoria in front of Palazzo Vecchio, the seat of the Municipality, for the demonstration called by the assembly of workers of the Gkn factory in Campi Bisenzio together with Anpi Firenze. "We have chosen a historical date, that of the Liberation, August 11 - said Dario Salvetti, member of the RSU - because it is not a single act, but a process that must take new forms. We win if we are all in this struggle" . 



Before the start of the march, the demonstrators, who demand the withdrawal of the dismissal procedure for the 422 workers of the factory, were greeted by the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella, with all the council. Also present at the initiative, among others, the mayor of Campi Bisenzio Emiliano Fossi, and Adelmo Cervi, son of Aldo Cervi, one of the seven brothers killed by the fascists in 1943, who wanted to give his personal solidarity to the fired from the Gkn .



A procession, with banners and flags, started from Piazza della Signoria around 9.40 pm, and paraded along the streets of the center, the Lungarni and the Oltrarno towards Piazza Pitti. Accompanied by the rhythm of drums, the demonstrators sang the song 'Occupiamola', which became the anthem of the fight against layoffs and the closure of the Campi Bisenzio factory, but later 'Bella Ciao' also resounded. At the head of the procession the flags of the Anpi, followed by large banners with two poles with the motto of the event "Insorgiamo". Among the RSUs that have brought their solidarity to the workers of the Gkn, those of Alitalia, Piaggio, Gsk Vaccines.
