The number of white Americans is falling for the first time in United States history.

The 2020 census report, which the United States Census Bureau officially unveils this Thursday, registered approximately 400,000 fewer whites than in 2010. Meanwhile, the report, which is released every ten years, recorded more Hispanic and Asian residents in the country.

Whites made up about 60 percent of the population, while residents of Hispanic descent made up about 20 percent.

The Asian community grew to around six percent, doubling over the past 30 years.

The proportion of blacks remained stable at around 12.5 percent.

“If we had presented these numbers to people 20 years ago, they would not have believed us.

The country is changing dramatically, ”said William Frey, demographer for the Brookings Institution think tank in Washington.

The scientist blamed the opioid crisis and unexpectedly low birth rates among so-called millennials, among other things, for the decline in the number of white Americans.

Americans with birthdays in their early eighties to late nineties would often have let themselves be deterred from starting a family by the financial crisis of 2007 and 2008 and its aftermath.

In contrast, the Hispanic population of the United States has doubled its population in the past 30 years. According to the census report, they are now responsible for about half of America's population growth since 2010.
