In terms of style, "Wenzhou General History" broke through the traditional framework of compiling only according to the order of the times, superimposing the thematic historical sequence on the basis of chronological history, and became an innovative work in the compilation of regional general history.
Among them, the chronological history includes six volumes including Dongou scroll, Han and Tang Five Dynasties volume, Song and Yuan volume, Ming Dynasty volume, Qing Dynasty volume, and Republic of China volume, totaling about 3.5 million words; the thematic history includes "Ancient Atlas of Wenzhou" and "History of the She Clan in Wenzhou" There are 16 types including "Research on Wenzhou Maritime Traffic History", totaling about 2.85 million words.
This historical record uses archaeological discoveries, rare documents, diaries, documents, archives, and large-scale regional surveys and collection and collation of local documents, which comprehensively and objectively reflect the history of Wenzhou’s construction, social changes, economic development, cultural education, customs, etc. The historical evolution of aspects.
It is reported that the compilation project of "General History of Wenzhou" started in 2011. It was edited by Wu Songdi, director of the Historical Geography Professional Committee of the Chinese Geographical Society and professor of the Institute of Chinese Historical Geography of Fudan University, and invited Fudan University, Zhejiang University, East China Normal University, Wenzhou University, etc. More than 60 experts and scholars from foreign universities and scientific research institutions participated in the project, which took 10 years to complete.
