A few hundred protesters gathered outside the court during the proceedings, the first day for paying attention to the mass executions in Iranian prisons for more than 30 years ago.

Exactly how many people died then not confirmed, but according to a report by Amnesty International, it's at least 5,000 dead - others argue that there were many more.

Lost seven family members

Batool Majani himself spent seven years in the infamous Evin prison and lost seven close family members in the executions.

Among them his brother who was killed completely without trial.

- By standing here today, I want to remind you of the regime's brutal crimes, she says.
