Naguib Sawiris defends his presentation of “The Dress Girl”: “I am free in Mali.”

Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris defended the offer he made to the student Habiba Tarek, known as "The Dress Girl", after the incident of bullying she was subjected to because of her dress.

Sawiris offered the student to complete her studies at any private university, in sympathy with her, after she wrote a post about being bullied for wearing a short dress during the exam at Tanta University.

He said, during a telephone interview on Al-Hadath Al-Youm channel, on Monday evening: "We have reached an unbearable level of bullying. Each one treats himself as a watchdog over virtue and freedoms. Virtue.”

He stressed that his support for the girl is a "personal act stemming from a humanitarian position," and he said, "I am free in Mali," reiterating his categorical refusal to interfere in the freedoms of others.

Habiba had appeared in a television interview, and talked about her position on Sawiris' offer to her, and said that she accepted it after she was exposed to what she said was injustice and persecution against a successful and ambitious girl, and indicated that she intended to withdraw her papers from the university.
