The Taliban controls the capitals of 5 states

Yesterday morning, the Taliban became in control of five of the capitals of the 34 Afghan provinces, after seizing three of them the previous day, including the city of Kunduz, in a major attack that the army seems unable to stop.

A few hours apart on Sunday, the rebels, after fierce fighting, captured Kunduz, which they had been besieging for a few weeks, and then captured Sari Pul and Talqan, the two provincial capitals to the south and east of Kunduz.

Zabihullah Hamidi, a resident of Talqan, the capital of Takhar province, told AFP that the violence began in the morning and the Taliban ended up taking control of the city "without much fighting", and that officials and security forces fled the city.
