Southern Italy is burning. Every day thousands of hectares literally go up in smoke and, very often, it is the hand of man that makes the 'first move'. But the fires are widespread almost everywhere in the peninsula, reaching in some cases, such as in Sicily, Sardinia, Calabria and Abruzzo, much greater extensions than those encountered in previous years.

According to the data processed by Legambiente, and presented on August 6, "from the fires of Montiferru that broke out on July 25 to those of Abruzzo in the provinces of L'Aquila and Pescara, up to the impressive number of fires that broke out from Catania to Palermo in recent days, we are faced with the multiplication of events defined as "extreme", since they exceed the control capacity, with an intensity greater than 10,000 kW / m and a propagation speed over 3 km / h. A worrying trend that goes hand in hand with an increase also recorded for 2020 in the number of incendiary phenomena throughout the national territory ".

Meanwhile, from today yellow alert for heat waves in Cagliari and 'extreme' fire danger for tomorrow in the province with the bulletin going from orange to red. For now, the state is of "early warning" because the situation, once triggered, if not dealt with quickly, could spread reaching large dimensions despite the intervention of air vehicles. For the heat, the alert is level 1 with temperatures that will be between 25 and 38 degrees. For Wednesday the alert code is level 2, orange, with temperatures that will reach close to 40 degrees.

From Cagliari to Perugia, among the cities with a red stamp for the heat, according to the latest bulletin on heat waves released by the ministry of health, with temperatures that should reach 40 degrees, even in the hilly areas. High temperatures which, in addition to the long period of drought, generate concern for the risk of fires.

Meanwhile, the commitment of the state's air fleet and ground crews continues. Yesterday alone, more than 900 requests for an air competition reached the Unified Air Operations Center (Coau) of the Department of Civil Protection. The regions of the Center-South are of particular interest. And the week just started will be the hottest year as a result of the arrival African subtropical anticyclone Lucifer is expanding with increasing force with temperatures that can reach 47-48 C in the South.

Meanwhile, the South d ' Italy burns and thousands of hectares go up in smoke and, very often, everything starts from the hand of man. Last in chronological order the Aspromonte. The woods burned up late into the night last night. To this day there are still 9 fires still active.

"In support of the government's decision, given the persistence of the current critical emergency situation, this morning, in agreement with the Regional Councilor for Forestry, Gianluca Gallo, I ordered that the hydraulic-forestry workers employed by the Company - let's talk of about 2,500 men - are all mobilized on duty to guard the forest territory in addition to the lookouts ". This was announced by Giuseppe Oliva, the extraordinary commissioner of "Calabria Verde", the forestry company of the Calabria Region.

Yesterday, in the Forlì area, in Meldola, two fires broke out not far from each other: in Pian di Spino and in Teodorano. The first fire was put out in the late afternoon. The second around 20 yesterday. In all cases no injuries were reported.
