More than 50 new flight-ready meadow hawk kings have been observed on Öland in recent days.
Before the end of the summer, the number is expected to rise to about 55.
The increase applies to several places around the country.
The growth is the result of a conservation project that was started in 2013 where Gösta Friberg was a central figure.
- It is an extremely good result, he says to P4 Kalmar.
Despite the success, however, the work of saving the meadow hawk must continue as the species is far from safe.
Two years ago, SVT reported on the work of protecting meadow hawks on Öland, with the help of fencing in fields where the meadow hawk has chosen to nest.
