Anne Hidalgo, mayor of Paris, received the Olympic flag from the president of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach, during the closing ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday.

This handover between Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike through the IOC President marks the start of the 33rd Olympiad, which will end with the Olympic (July 26-August 11, 2024) and Paralympic (August 28-September 8) Games. from Paris.

This ceremony began with the entry of the flags of the 206 delegations followed by the parade of athletes who participated in these Olympic Games marked by the Covid and the health restrictions imposed, such as closed doors in the stadiums.

At the end of the evening, the Olympic cauldron, lit on July 23, will go out.

At the same time in Paris, festivities, with the French medalists, take place at the Trocadéro.

The organizers of the Paris Olympics had planned to hoist a giant flag on the Eiffel Tower but "weather conditions do not allow it to be done", they indicated.

In Tokyo, an artistic sequence of ten minutes including a piece of music composed by the artist Woodkid which will be in concert in Paris will mark the handover in Paris.
