Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said that Iran was the one who attacked the tanker "Mercer Street" late last month, and the European Union renewed its accusations of the Iranian regime's involvement in the attack.

At the start of his government's weekly session, Bennett described Iran as an "imminent danger" to global stability and peace, and called on the Iranian regime to "realize that this will not pass without paying its price."

In his speech during the opening of the weekly meeting of the Israeli government, Bennett described Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi as "cruel and extremist."

On June 19, Raisi won the Iranian presidential elections, and was inaugurated earlier this August.

The Israeli Prime Minister went on to say, "Iran is a clear danger to the stability of the region and to world peace, and the world must not tolerate it."

It is noteworthy that on July 29, the oil tanker "Mercer Street" was attacked in the Gulf of Oman, killing two of its crew.

accusation and denial

In addition to Israel, Britain and the United States accused Tehran of being behind the attack, which the Iranian Foreign Ministry denied, warning that "the response will be strong and firm to any potential adventure."

In this context, European Union Foreign Policy Commissioner Josep Borrell said that all evidence clearly points to Iran's involvement in the attack on the Mercer Street tanker.

Borrell said these unilateral actions violate international law and threaten peace, calling for them to stop.

He also called for the protection of freedom of navigation in accordance with international law, and called on everyone to play a constructive role in maintaining regional stability.

Yesterday, Iran rejected the West's accusations of involvement in the attack, describing these "allegations" as part of a psychological war against it.

The commander of the armed forces, Abu al-Fadl Shakarji, said that there was no basis for US allegations about finding parts of an Iranian drone that targeted the tanker.

He added that Iran does not hide any operation it is carrying out, and if the aforementioned ship had been targeted, it would have announced that, as it had previously announced targeting the Ain al-Assad base in Iraq.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry also condemned the statement of foreign ministers of the Group of Seven, which accused Tehran of being behind the attack on the tanker.
