- The queues have multiplied in some metropolitan areas during the pandemic, says Pia Rohlen, acting head of communications, the Swedish Colony Garden Association, which is an association with over 220 local associations across the country.

Koloniträdgårdsföreningen Falan is over 100 years old, and has been located on Kårarvet in Falun since the 1960s.

The association that leases land from Falu municipality has a total of 141 lots.

Most of them have a colony cottage, but there are also simpler cultivation plots, which are not built on.

Ecologically and environmentally conscious

- In the past, we have always had vacant cultivation plots, but now we have a queue.

I think it may be that it is easy to lease a cultivation plot and it is easy to give it away, says the association's chairman Annika Paulsson.

In Falun, interest increased even a few years before the pandemic.

And the focus of the new growers is clearly ecological and environmentally conscious.

- Those who come here are very interested in the environment, says Maud Pettersson, treasurer.
