Cairo -

“Thank you for your kind cooperation with us.” With this message, the Egyptian intelligence ended a chapter in the life of one of its most famous spies, after he managed to infiltrate its Israeli counterpart (Mossad) for 11 continuous years, during which he held high positions, and was a guest of the senior leaders of Tel Aviv, to return in the end To his country carrying the "fat duck".

He is Ahmed Mohamed Abdel Rahman Al-Hawan, known as "Friday of Shawan", born on August 6, 1939, and lived as Egypt's most famous spies in Israel, until he left our world on November 2, 2011.

Away from the world of espionage, the man had other aspects, as his name was associated with the late artist Souad Hosni, "Cinderella of the Egyptian Screen." He was in favor of overthrowing the rule of the late President Hosni Mubarak, as well as "the rule of the Brotherhood." Elections after the January 2011 revolution.

Egypt embodied his life in a dramatic work called "Tears in Rude Eyes", starring Adel Imam, but "Al-Hawan" wished that the character would embody one of the artists, Farid Shawqi or Mahmoud Morsi, and a dispute arose between him and Adel Imam because of the "leader's" sarcasm against him. In their first meeting.

old revenge

In the city of Suez (northeast), "Al-Hawan" was born and raised, and worked in the maritime sailboat trade. He learned in varying degrees 9 languages, most notably English, French and Greek, by mixing with foreigners passing through the Suez Canal, which was the focus of the Israeli attack in the 1967 war, known as "The setback".

During the bombing of the Israeli air force, his wife, "Fatima", lost his sight, forcing him and his family to migrate from Suez to Cairo, as part of the displacement operations that included the cities of the Canal, according to what he recounted in his memoirs.

There are many women in the life of humiliation;

The companion of the beginning of the struggle, "Fatima", separated from her, after learning that he was in a relationship with the Mossad agent in the seventies of the last century, "Jojo", to marry later on the divorce of the late artist Sayed Zayan, and they live together for two decades.

During his trips from Greece to other European capitals, Al-Hawan got acquainted - according to what he mentioned in more than one press interview - a large number of Israeli girls, and he was also able to recruit "Jojo" for Egypt, and she was providing him with information about the Mossad and the Israeli army.

And about "Jojo", Al-Shawan said - in his memoirs - that "he loved her very much, and she entered Islam, and lived in Cairo in complete secrecy for fear of her assassination, after disclosing his work against the Mossad."

first contact

After the 1967 war, Al-Hawan was exposed to financial hardship, so he headed to Cairo and lost hope of returning to Suez, and from there to the Greek capital, Athens, and worked as an administrative officer on a naval boat, with the help of an old Greek friend who owed him money, and they had a good relationship.

And from Greece to various European capitals, where Al-Shawan met the Mossad men, who did not know the nature of their work, and they were hiding behind an iron and steel company, so they convinced him to manage their new branch in Cairo, and gave him for establishing the new branch a large sum of 185,000 dollars, and later he asked him A Mossad agent obtained information about the boats anchored in the Bitter Lakes region of the Suez Canal, claiming that they had been purchased for scrap.

meeting the president

Suspicion entered the heart of humiliation as a result of the Jewish names carried by everyone who approached him, and their exaggerated interest in secret information and the large sums of money he obtained, and he began to think of meeting the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser to inform him of the matter.

After skirmishes with the Egyptian intelligence, he was able to meet with Abdel Nasser, and then he met his official with the intelligence at the time, Major General Abdel Salam Mahjoub (he held ministerial positions and was a former governor) for the second time, as he had previously met him by chance on a boat in Greece under the name "Al Rayes Zakaria", and he was He sold him his watch because he needed money.

Al-Hawan learned from the Mossad to collect information, write in secret ink, and send and receive by radio, and obtained an Israeli passport for him in the name of Jacob Mansour, and holds the status of first secretary of the Israeli embassy in Rome.

"Fat Duck"

Before the October 1973 war, he was able to bring a rare, complex and small transmitter at the time, which the Egyptian intelligence dreamed of obtaining, and it was called the "fat duck", in contrast to the misleading information provided by the Israeli intelligence.

After the war, he returned to Egypt with another device, and the Mossad asked him to travel with him to Cairo to provide them with information through him, so the man gave him to the Egyptian intelligence.

He also narrated in his memoirs that "the last time he traveled to Israel to get the transmitter, they put it in a shoe brush, but former Israeli President Shimon Peres (when he was in charge of the intelligence) was afraid that the matter would be exposed, because the brush was new, so he put varnish on it, and bent himself under He presented the humiliation and then wiped his shoes."

In 1976, he was wounded in the foot, so he asked his country to retire from intelligence work, but the late President Anwar Sadat refused due to the need for him, so he completed the march injured, but an injury to his eye prompted him to repeat the request the following year, so the intelligence had no choice but to accept the matter.

The end of the work of Al-Hawan in the Egyptian intelligence had a great sound in Israel, where the first message broadcast by Egypt from the rare transmitter was directed to Tel Aviv, and it said, "Thank you for your kind cooperation with us for 11 years through our man, Juma Al-Shawan (Al-Hawan)... the Egyptian General Intelligence," according to What came in the dramatic work that embodied his life.

Revolution and support for Islamists

Despite the huge sums of money that Al-Hawan received for his services to the Israeli Mossad, which he was carrying out under the supervision of Egyptian intelligence, in the last years of his life he was "below the line of the poor", as he described in a previous press interview.

His appeals to senior officials - starting with the late President Hosni Mubarak - to provide a decent living did not succeed, despite "handing over all the money he obtained from the Mossad to his country's intelligence throughout his work, which could have made him a millionaire," he said.

It seems that what the man received from Mubarak prompted him to sign the statement of the National Association for Change, which was led by Mohamed ElBaradei (Vice-President of the Republic in the summer of 2013), which demanded to change the regime before the revolution. He participated on January 25, 2011 from the beginning.

After Mubarak's overthrow, Al-Hawan - before his death in November 2011 - expressed his support for the Islamist movement and the Salafist presidential candidate at the time, Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, stressing that "the most keen on Egypt's security are the Islamists, which is what we see in Abu Ismail's words."

Contrary to his intelligence role, Al-Hawan was in a romantic relationship with "Cinderella", as he said on more than one occasion that he "married the artist Suad Hosni Arfia in 1969, and their marriage lasted 8 months."

While the sister of "Cinderella" denied this marriage, Al-Hawan confirmed that he had indeed married Souad Hosni, "As for her sister, she did not know anything about the matter and I did not declare this marriage at the time at Souad's request."
