Lars-Åke Letskog in Askersund is out walking in the woods when SVT calls.

He notes that the attacks on the county's forest have become significantly less this year as a whole.

But it varies.

- You do not get wise to this, he states.

I know that the Swedish Forest Agency warns that more spruce bark beetles are approaching, but I do not have more in my traps.

On the other hand, he has felled forest for other owners who have been hit harder this year than last year.

Important to look for clues

- In one place I had to fell four times as much affected forest as last year.

There was a large increase while most have less.

To get rid of the unwanted pests, it is important to clear the infestation and old forest, something that many forest owners are careful about.

And before the new wave of swarms, it is extra important to be out and look for traces of attacks before it is too late.

- Here where I go now, it is a forest owner who is old and does not really have the strength.

And it shows.

Here the forest is dying right now.
