China records the highest daily cases of corona during the current wave

China announced today, Friday, the highest number of new daily infections in the current wave of the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, which began at the end of July and was reinforced by an increase in local infections.

Officials said that the highly contagious delta strain of the Corona virus was the reason for the increase in cases, although it did not cause a wide spread of infection in some cities, while initial indications appeared that infections were declining.

The National Health Commission said that China recorded 124 new infections yesterday, Thursday, compared to 85 the previous day.

It added that 80 of the new infections were local, compared to 62 the day before.

Most of the newly registered cases were in Yangzhou, a city near Shanghai, China's commercial and financial centre.

On Friday, authorities closed two train stations in Yangshuo and prevented passengers from entering, in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus within the city.

The city suspended domestic flights and transfers with other cities.

The Corona virus first appeared in late 2019 in the city of Wuhan in central Hubei province, but until recently China managed to prevent any major local outbreaks.

Since July 20, when the first cases of the current wave were discovered in Nanjing, Jiangsu, the virus has spread to about 40 cities, including the capital, Beijing.
