Today, Saturday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry commented on its accusation of bombing an Israeli-operated ship in the Arabian Sea, after the issue was raised in the Security Council and the foreign ministers of the seven countries adopted a strong stance against Tehran.

In the words of the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Iran condemned the "baseless" accusations made by the G7 countries of being behind an attack on an oil tanker in the Arabian Sea last week.

"We strongly condemn the baseless statement issued by the G7 foreign ministers and the European Union's high representative for foreign policy, in which they made baseless accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran," spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said in a statement.

The new Iranian statement came as international pressure escalated on Tehran and held it responsible for the attack on the oil tanker, which killed two people.

On Friday, the UN Security Council held consultations regarding the attack on the ship, Mercer Street.

The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven have said that what they called Iran's approach and its support for armed forces and parties threaten international peace and security.

In a joint statement, the foreign ministers added that all evidence points to Iran's responsibility for the attack on the Mercer Street, and condemned it as a "deliberate violation of international law."

exchange charges

For her part, Britain's representative to the Security Council, Barbara Woodward, said that Iran is responsible for the attack, and that its activities and actions are a threat to international peace and security.

On the other hand, the deputy Iranian representative to the Security Council said that the Israeli regime cannot erase its criminal record by assigning charges to others.

She added that the Israeli regime has been the most prominent threat in the region for more than 7 decades.

The Iranian official at the United Nations described the accusations leveled against her country over the Mercer Street ship as an attempt to divert the world's attention from Israel's crimes, stressing that Tehran will not hesitate to defend itself and secure its national interests.

She said that the Israeli Defense Minister threatened to use force against Tehran, warning against such adventures and miscalculation, as she put it.

On July 29, an oil tanker operated by a company owned by an Israeli businessman was attacked off Oman, killing a British security guard and a Romanian citizen of the ship's crew.

The United States, Britain and Israel have previously pointed the finger at Iran, which has denied involvement in the attack.

The US Central Command said that the American experts concluded that the "drone" that targeted the tanker "Mercer Street" was Iranian-made.

It announced that the tanker was subjected to an unsuccessful attack by two drones late last month, and stated that the damage to the ship was the result of a third drone that targeted it the next day, and it was loaded with military explosives.

And the US Central Command indicated - in a statement - that the investigators found a few remnants of at least one march, and that the explosion caused by the impact of the march on the tanker caused a hole with a diameter of about 6 feet, and tests proved the presence of a nitrate-based explosive that was identified as "RDX". (RDX), which indicates that the drone was sent with the intention of destroying and causing casualties.

American promises

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken promised a "joint response" to Tehran, while Iran warned that it would respond to any "adventurism" after threats from Israel and Washington.

For his part, the Pentagon spokesman said that Secretary Lloyd Austin spoke with his Israeli counterpart Benny Gantz about "Iran's attack on the ship", and expressed his concern about Iran's use of drones in the region.

He added that the two ministers "agreed to work with allies to condemn Iran's threat to navigation and discussed next steps," and that Austin affirmed "the United States' commitment to work for the security of the region."
