It came close to it.

On Wednesday, a drama was narrowly avoided in the New York subway, in the United States.

Shortly after 1 p.m., a man in a wheelchair fell into the tracks at Union Square station in the heart of Manhattan,

The New York Post

and CBS television reported.

The circumstances of this fall have not been determined.

But quickly, the other travelers present on the platform were seized with panic.

And there was plenty, because ten seconds after the fall of the man in his thirties, the passage of an oar was announced.

It was then that a Good Samaritan intervened, a man dressed in a black T-shirt and jeans who was on the platform during the incident, say the American media.

This afternoon in Union Square a man in a wheelchair somehow ended up on the subway tracks.

Luckily, a Good Samaritan jumped down and rescued the man about 10s before the train came into the station.

Huge shoutout to whoever the guy is who jumped down to help!

"He didn't hesitate for a second to jump on the track"

The latter acted very quickly.

The rescuer had the right instinct to jump on the track, throw the wheelchair on the platform and grab the victim.

He also received help from the other passengers, who pulled the two men back up as quickly as possible to the dock and thus put them out of danger.

The heroic rescue scene was filmed by Lauren Mennen, a CBS reporter who happened to be on the dock by chance that day.

During her testimony, she explained that she was very impressed by the courage of the Good Samaritan.

“He didn't hesitate for a second to jump on the track,” she said.

She also called all the other passengers who intervened to get the rescuer and the victim to safety quickly as “heroes”.

For now, the identity of the Good Samaritan has not been disclosed.

The man who fell on the track was injured and was taken to hospital "in stable condition" for treatment.

If he was very shocked, his vital prognosis is not engaged.
