The Swedish Forest Agency announces that the new generation of spruce bark beetles has begun to leave the trees in recent weeks and that a new wave of flooding has been observed in southern and central Sweden.

The weather contributed

This means that the risk of new damage to spruce forests in already hard-hit areas is increasing.

The weather, dry and hot and with heavy thunderstorms, has contributed to the swarm.

- During the summer, several thunderstorms have erupted in some parts of the country, with new wind traps as a result, which now attract spruce bark beetles.

Intensive work is underway to find and repair all damage and it is extra important that you as a forest owner inventory your forest in the coming weeks, says Marco Boudreau, area manager at Stora Enso, in a press release.

Evaluation in September

Götaland is worst affected and for Värmland it is too early to give a forecast.

- In September there will be an evaluation, so the extent we can not comment on yet.

Then we have reference properties that will be inventoried again, says Alf Olofsson, group manager at the Swedish Forest Agency in Karlstad.
