05 August 2021 "No signs of external injuries attributable to the actions of third parties", inflicted with a stabbing weapon, nor traces of a pistol shot or other firearm: after three days, it ended this afternoon at institute of forensic medicine of the Santa Chiara hospital in Pisa the autopsy on the corpse of Francesco Pantaleo, the 23-year-old university student of computer engineering, originally from Marsala (Trapani), found charred in the countryside of San Giuliano Terme (Pisa) on 25 July. This is what Adnkronos learns from investigative sources.

Therefore, the suicide track seems confirmed, which "appears preponderant at the moment", explain the same investigative sources. But there is still no definitive answer, capable of dismissing the murder hypothesis. It will take about a month to know, for example, the results of the toxicological tests, including that on the presence of carbon monoxide in the young man's lungs.

"Now the word passes to the laboratories: it will be the results that will emerge from the various exams required that will allow us to formulate a more precise answer to the questions about death", Professor Marco Di Paolo of the University of Pisa explains to Adnkronos. my colleague Damiano Marra are the two coroners appointed by the prosecutor directed by the chief prosecutor Alessandro Crini to perform the autopsy. For an overall answer to all the questions formulated by the Prosecutor's Office, the two experts "reserved, as more in-depth evaluations were necessary".

Pantaleo's corpse was "severely altered and heavily deteriorated by the effects of the flames". However, first the CT scan excluded the presence of bullets embedded in the body and then the other radiodiagnostic examinations excluded injuries and wounds caused by third parties with knives, scissors or other pointed or cutting instruments.

What could seem to an inexperienced eye at a first external examination any injuries, in reality are only the cracks that occur in the skin as a result of carbonization.

The autopsy revealed that the young man was wearing summer clothes and light shoes, while no glasses were found on the young man.

With the conclusion of the autopsy, the coroners have returned the body to the availability of the magistrates, who will soon be able to give the authorization to return it to family members in view of the funeral to be held in Sicily.

During the autopsy, the tissues were taken for laboratory tests, from chemical to toxicological analyzes to histological investigations.

The team of experts appointed by the Public Prosecutor's Office (six in total) also started operations on the 23-year-old's PC, tablet and iPhone, enrolled at the University of Pisa. Engineer Michele Vitiello from Brescia, one of the IT experts working on the Mottarone cable car disaster, was appointed as technical consultant in order to recover the information that has been deleted from the laptop. For example, we investigate the deleted chats that would be connected to an online fighting game that Pantaleo was passionate about, with feedback to be found in the so-called 'deep web'.

The investigators of the Carabinieri, with the direction of the operational department of the provincial command, are in the meantime continuing to examine the videos of about thirty remote surveillance cameras arranged along the path of about 6 kilometers that Pantaleo would have made on foot between his rented apartment in Pisa and the field of San Giuliano Terme where the charred body was found. The time of death is set by the investigators between the evening of Saturday 24 July and the morning of the following day.
