In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, it has been more than a week now that the dispute has persisted between religious denominations over the appointment of the chairman of the Electoral Commission.

Six of the eight denominations recognized by the state have registered the name of their candidate, Denis Kadima.

The Catholic and Protestant churches, who suspect him of being close to power, believe that this is illegal and point to the pressures and threats exerted on religious leaders and other candidates to allow this designation.

While the opposition and part of the Sacred Union have suspended their participation in the CENI, several citizen movements including La Lucha are calling for demonstrations this Thursday morning in front of the seat of Parliament.

Yesterday Wednesday, its activists were already mobilizing in Kinshasa.

Hello!

We are the Lucha citizen movement

... ”Crispin is already raising awareness in Lingala while his colleague from Lucha, Benjamin approaches another passerby.

“

Tomorrow, we have a sit-in at the level of the National Assembly.

We will protest against the politicization of the Ceni.

We no longer want to achieve what we experienced in 2018. This time, we want there to be a credible electoral cycle, accepted by all ...

"

On this square in a popular district, the speech of Lucha touches, but the movement hopes to be rallied by politicians from all sides, as Crispin explains.

“

Me, I appeal to all politicians, whether they are from the FCC, Lamuka or the Sacred Union… I appeal to all Congolese, because it is for a noble interest.

It is to save the Democratic Republic of the Congo

 ”.

For a week now, activists and political actors have started to consult each other.

But the front opposed to the minutes filed by six religious denominations against the opinion of the Catholic and Protestant Churches remains heterogeneous.

It brings together the pro-Kabila coalition, and the parties of some of its main opponents, Martin Fayulu, Moise Katumbi or Vital Kamerhe.
