Like many other countries, China is facing a wave of cases due to the delta variant.

The four Chinese vaccines seem less effective against this strain of the coronavirus, even if the authorities are trying to reassure the population and the countries which have purchased doses.

China is not spared by the wave of the delta variant.

Like many others, the country sees the arrival of the new strain with concern.

For the first time in Wuhan since May 2020 and in a dozen cities, the number of cases is increasing very significantly.

Massive screening operations are underway, but what worries the authorities is that most of the patients were vaccinated.

Four Chinese vaccines are currently authorized in the country, and they have allowed nearly 1.7 billion doses to be administered in the country.

But they are not very effective against new strains.

Despite everything, the authorities want to be reassuring.

Existing studies show that the protection of the Covid-19 vaccine against the Delta strain may be reduced.

"But the existing vaccine still has a good preventive and protective effect against the disease and its most serious effects," the deputy director of the Chinese Health Center recently said.

A third injection?

Another source of concern, China has exported nearly 600 million doses of vaccines abroad, more than all other countries combined.

And here again, their effectiveness is very variable.

In several countries where it is widely used, such as Mongolia, Seychelles and Chile, where more than 70% of the population is vaccinated, infections linked to the Delta variant are still on the rise.

The question now arises of a third injection which could take place in the fall in China in order to boost immunity.
