Under pressure from the left wing of the Democrats, the US authorities on Tuesday declared a new moratorium on rents which runs until October 3.

The precedent put in place in September 2020 expired on July 31.

Since that date, millions of people have been threatened with eviction.

It is a relief for the eleven million Americans who since

July 31 have

lived in fear.

By granting them a two-month reprieve due to the spread of the Delta variant in the United States, the American authorities are choosing safety.

In the midst of a pandemic, there is no question of putting millions of people on the streets, which would cause an increase in contamination and pose a risk to public health.

For months, administrative problems have slowed down the payment of aid reserved for tenants unable to pay their rent, due to the health crisis.

Out of an envelope of 43 billion dollars, only 3 billion were distributed.

Since the expiration of the last moratorium on July 31, many Americans have received almost nothing despite the funds being allocated since February.

Anger on the left of the Democratic Party

This situation has angered the left wing of the Democratic Party, which accuses President Biden of not having found a solution in time.

It was the action led by Cori Bush, a former homeless man who became elected to the House, which pushed the authorities to act.

The latter had been camping for four days in front of the Capitol in support of people threatened with expulsion.

On Friday night, I came to the Capitol with my chair.

I refused to accept that Congress could leave for vacation while 11 million people faced eviction.

For 5 days, we've been out here, demanding that our government acts to save lives.

Today, our movement moved mountains.
