But seen over a twenty-year period, great progress has been made, according to Stefansson.

- Seven million children go to school in Afghanistan, of which 40 percent are girls.

This is a massive increase from twenty years ago when only hundreds of thousands of children received an education.

- The great failure is military and political. They thought they could win the war on the battlefield, but have quite recently woken up to the need to invest much more politically and diplomatically, says Anders Stefansson.
