• Cinema: Locarno74, Italy in competition with Angius' "I giants"

04 August 2021After last year's suspension due to the pandemic, the Locarno Film Festival is back in attendance, now in its 74th edition, the first under the direction of Giona A. Nazzaro.



In Piazza Grande opens the "Beckett" review, directed by Fernando Cito Filomarino. The film, from Netflix and co-produced by Luca Guadagnino, is a thriller starring John David Washington (son of Denzel), Alicia Vikander and Vicky Krieps. It is the second feature film by the young Milanese director, after "Antonia." (2015).



The Piazza, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary, sees the awarding of the Davide Campari Excellence Award to Laetitia Casta in the opening ceremony.



In the international competition 17 feature films are competing for the Golden Leopard, including the Italian "I giganti", directed by Bonifacio Angius, and "Zeros and ones" by Abel Ferrara, an Italy / Germany / United States production, with Ethan Hawke . On the jury the filmmaker Eliza Hittman, president, the artist and filmmaker Kevin Jerome Everson, the director Philippe Lacôte, and the actresses Leonor Silveira and Isabella Ferrari.



The second competitive section, Cineasti del presente, short films, out of competition and the retrospective, dedicated to the cinema of Alberto Lattuada, are also on the program. The review will end on August 14th.
