With + 10% compared to the EU average, our country has already exceeded the objectives set by the EU for the recycling of all aluminum packaging. The result made it possible to avoid greenhouse gas emissions equal to 355 thousand tons of Co2. According to the National Aluminum Packaging Consortium, this goal has been reached thanks to the combined action of institutions, businesses, operators, citizens and municipalities.



The consortium has stimulated, on the one hand, the reduction at the source of the production of waste of the material of its competence and on the other hand supported the introduction of new 'green' technologies, such as those that allow the recovery of increasing quantities of aluminum from the selection of unsorted waste or even from post-combustion waste.



The recycling of aluminum in Italy is a consolidated practice so much so that in the world panorama: it is the first in Europe alongside Germany for the quantity of recycled metal and third in the world after the United States and Japan. 



According to the national CIAL report, data are growing in almost all supply chains and expectations are positive considering the new European directives in terms of circular economy. Last year, separate collection in Italy reached 55.5% and the recycling of municipal waste is 44% and 67.5% of these are released for consumption, a threshold already above 65% identified as a minimum to be achieved by 2025. 



But Italy has the primacy in the recycling of aluminum stands out. The latest report, dated 2017, certifies that 47,800 tons of aluminum packaging were recovered, equal to 68.6% of the amount placed on the market, i.e. 69,700 tons with over 6700 Italian municipalities in which the separate collection of packaging is active. aluminum (85% of the total) with the involvement of approximately 53.9 million inhabitants (89% of the Italian population). 



Furthermore, the latest trends confirm Italy in first place in Europe with over 955 thousand tons of recycled scrap (including packaging and other items). The recycling of aluminum in Italy and in the world is one of the most effective examples of circular economy, capable of combining quality and sustainability.
