They explain refusing "to play the role of health police" in their establishment.

About fifty Breton cafeterias and restaurateurs announced on Tuesday their opposition to the health pass, mandatory from August 9.

“We are places open to all without distinction (…).

Unconditional welcome, mutual aid and exchange are fundamental concepts, part of our core values, ”they announced in a press release on their Facebook page.

A "red line has been crossed"

"We refuse to play the role of health police and thus to control, sort and separate the users of our places", they added.

The signatories believe that this health pass could force them to "refuse to serve a drink or allow people to attend an event with whom we have known for years".

In addition, they consider making this decision "in the name of the defense of individual freedom to come and go in public places", considering that with the implementation of the health pass a "red line has been crossed".

"Aware of the health context"

Established in 38 Breton municipalities (Brest, Concarneau, Saint-Brieuc, Lorient, Lannion…), the 44 signatory restaurateurs and bistrotiers say they are “fully aware of the health context” and do not wish to put “the relevance of the vaccine back into debate”.

Faced with the rebound of the Covid-19 epidemic, the health pass entered into force on July 21 in “places of leisure and culture” bringing together more than 50 people.

It must be extended, from August 9, in particular to cafes and restaurants.

Subject to the decision, expected Thursday, of the Constitutional Council, seized by left-wing deputies.
