The emergence of a new strain of Corona virus in South Korea

The Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced today, Tuesday, that the first two cases of the Delta Plus strain of the Corona virus have been detected, while the country faces a fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Delta Plus strain is a mutation of the Delta strain that was first discovered in India.

And there are reports of few cases of infection, as it only appeared in a few countries, including Britain, Portugal and India.

"The first case (in South Korea) was a man in his forties who had not traveled recently," the Korea Centers told Reuters.

She added that the source of transmission is still under investigation.

Pak Young-joon, an official at the Korean Centers, said in a statement that the results of the examination of about 280 people who had contact with the patient showed only his son's infection with the virus, adding that it was not clear if he was infected with the Delta Plus strain.

He pointed out that the second case infected with this strain was a traveler returning from the United States.

This person received two doses of AstraZeneca before travelling.

And South Korea recorded 1,202 new infections with the Corona virus yesterday, Monday, bringing the total number of infections to 20,203, while the death toll reached 2,104.
