The third dose will probably be given to "a larger proportion" of the population, FHM writes on its website.

"But the extent is currently unclear and depends, among other things, on possible new virus variants and on what various research studies will show about the protective effect of vaccines over time."

Some people, who are part of risk groups, may receive a refill dose already in the autumn.

These are primarily elderly people who live in special housing, people over the age of 80, as well as people with severely weakened immune systems.

- The assessment is that it is not possible to eradicate the virus and therefore vaccination work should be long-term and focused on reducing serious illness and death.

It is still important that we have a special focus on vaccination of groups and residents in geographical areas with low vaccination coverage, says Anders Tegnell, state epidemiologist, in a press release.

The ongoing, broad vaccination of Sweden's population is expected to be completed in the autumn of 2021. After that, mainly 16-17-year-olds, as well as adults who have not yet been vaccinated, will be offered vaccination.

The supply of vaccines will be good for a "long time to come", FHM claims.
