The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) opened proceedings on the complaint of the head of the political council of the Opposition Platform - For Life (Opposition Platform - For Life) party, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Viktor Medvedchuk, against the illegal actions of the Ukrainian authorities and political persecution.

This was announced by Renat Kuzmin, a deputy of the Rada from the HLS.

“I am publishing an official letter from the ECHR on the opening of proceedings on Medvedchuk's claim against Ukraine.

As you can see, the case of the illegal keeping of Meddedchuk under house arrest and other gross violations of his fundamental rights and freedoms can be considered by the court in the near future in the order of priority proceedings, "Kuzmin wrote in his Telegram channel, attaching a letter to the ECHR.

He admitted that if the European Court sided with Medvedchuk, this later "could become the basis for the resignation of the Prosecutor General, the Chairman of the SBU and the start of the impeachment of the President" of Ukraine.

In mid-June, Medvedchuk filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights, accusing Kiev of political motivation for the criminal prosecution, of gross violation of the rights to a fair trial, liberty and security of person.

This was reported on the official website of the HLE.

“Taking into account the latest statement of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights about gross violations committed by the Ukrainian authorities during the closure of opposition TV channels associated with Medvedchuk, the decision of the ECHR is not difficult to predict.

How easy it is to predict the consequences for judges and prosecutors who violated the law to please the big bosses, ”the press service of the party quotes a statement by Renat Kuzmin.

As stated in the message on the website of the HLE, the decision of the ECHR "will not have to wait long."

It is also noted that the resonance due to the pressure of the Ukrainian authorities on Medvedchuk "went far beyond the borders of the country and has long attracted the attention of the general public."

Pursuit of Medvedchuk

We will remind, on May 11, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine conducted searches in the house of Medvedchuk and the office of the OCPL.

This is stated in the statement of the politician himself, posted on the party's website.

According to the parliamentarian, the department grossly violated the Constitution of Ukraine and the laws of the country.

“As expected, nothing illegal was found.

The real purpose of these illegal searches was, in violation of the established procedure, to hand me a suspicion of high treason fabricated by order of the authorities, ”Medvedchuk noted, stressing that everything that happens to him“ is a political reprisal ”for his principled position.

Later, he was charged under the articles "High treason" and "Violation of the laws and customs of war."

He is now under house arrest, which was extended until September 7.

As stated in the official statement of the PLO, published on July 30, Kiev "stubbornly continues open lawlessness" against Medvedchuk.

“At the same time, the court ignored the massive procedural violations committed during the investigation.

I closed my eyes to the delusional accusations.

Such "blindness" of the Ukrainian justice in the so-called "Medvedchuk case" is explained only by direct pressure from President Zelensky and his team, "the party said in a statement.

It was also reported that for five months the investigation and prosecution authorities of Ukraine “did not provide any evidence in this inspired“ case ”.

“The actions of the authorities in relation to the head of the political council of the OPSL Medvedchuk are dictated solely by fear of their political future.

Public disenchantment with Zelenskiy's policies is growing.

In order to somehow stay at the helm, the Ze-team set the task of suppressing the LEO - the only active alternative to Zelensky's anti-popular course, ”the party stressed, adding that lies, blackmail and repression are the main tools used by Kiev.

The next day, Medvedchuk said that behind the high-profile charges, there were no signs of a crime or evidence of its commission.

In turn, his party colleagues criticized Kiev's actions.

Thus, Ivan Chubirko, chairman of the OLE faction in the Transcarpathian Regional Council, called the case against Medvedchuk “political persecution” and stressed that Ukraine was “far from the rule of law”.

At the same time, Maxim Nevenchany, a member of the political council of the PLO, said that Zelensky's team is making a lot of efforts "to put pressure on the judges."

The uncrowned one explained the persecution of Medvedchuk by Kiev's fear that the chairman of the political council of the PLO represents the interests of "the majority of the protest electorate and gives clear recipes for overcoming the crisis, both domestically and in the international arena."

While Kiev "has huge failures and does not even understand in which direction to move," the politician stressed.

As Medvedchuk told reporters on August 1, the whole process, from the announcement of suspicion to the court hearings in his case, is intended to "intimidate with the threat of illegal criminal prosecution and political repression."

"Neither I, nor the people's deputies were afraid of this and will not be afraid," the politician emphasized, noting that the real reason for the criminal case against him is Kiev's unwillingness to accept constructive criticism from the opposition for the lack of peace, rising utility costs, low living standards and income.

"Close our eyes to lawlessness"

As noted by a RT source at the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, Kiev's actions against Viktor Medvedchuk can be described as a violation of the law.

“In the courts of foreign instances, they are guided by the norms of law and do not make emotional decisions.

So Ukraine is likely to lose the lawsuit.

This decision could pose a problem for President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, especially after the end of his term of office.

Because they can ask him even after five years, ”said the interlocutor of RT.

In turn, a RT source in the Batkivshchyna party said that Viktor Medvedchuk, being a “very strong lawyer,” has the opportunity to defend his rights.

“As a result, all participants in the cases against him will be held accountable.

The power in Ukraine is changing very quickly, and the new leadership of the country may be interested in this matter.

As is usually the case, the evidence base against Medvedchuk is very weak, ”he said.

At the same time, according to a RT source in the office of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky is skeptical about Medvedchuk's appeal to the ECHR.

“The decision, if there is, will be in five years.

Zelensky may no longer be president, "a representative of the Ukrainian president's office said in an interview with RT.

However, as Vladimir Zharikhin, deputy director of the Institute of CIS Countries, noted, the fact that the ECHR opened proceedings on Medvedchuk's complaint can be regarded as a kind of signal to Kiev to moderate its ambitions and stop illegal actions.

“However, one should not forget that the European Court of Human Rights has not previously been seen in an impartial love for democracy and freedom.

This structure has been quite selective in responding to human rights violations, depending on where they occur.

Moreover, considering such cases, to put it mildly, not quickly.

It is quite possible that the final decision on the Medvedchuk case will be purely declarative and non-binding.

However, a positive decision cannot be ruled out, ”the expert said in a conversation with RT.

In turn, political analyst Alexander Dudchak believes that the start of the ECHR proceedings in the Medvedchuk case is a "positive sign."

“In the international arena, they will pay attention to this case - this is already good.

But we still have to wait for the results of this investigation, and no one knows when it will end.

It is also difficult to predict what the final conclusions will be.

The ECHR is an extremely biased and politicized body.

Usually this structure acts in the interests of the West, "the expert explained in an interview with RT.

At the same time, Zharikhin believes that the decision of the ECHR, whatever it may be, is unlikely to be able to radically change the political alignment in Ukraine.

“I would not fantasize in this direction.

The composition in which the European Court of Human Rights is currently sitting will most likely not allow such a precedent.

Moreover, the Kiev authorities look back at the EU and see that the European community as a whole looks quite positively on their actions, ”the analyst said.

As Dudchak summed up, the fact that lawlessness and lawlessness are taking place in Ukraine is no secret to anyone.

“Kiev's hunt for Medvedchuk and illegal actions in this direction once again confirm this thesis.

The case was drawn up solely for the purpose of political persecution of the opponent.

While the West calmly looks at everything from the outside, not in a hurry to interfere.

It is high time for the international community to take action against what is happening in Ukraine against the current authorities of the country.

But the collective West prefers to ignore many things and close its eyes to the lawlessness initiated by Kiev, ”the expert concluded.
