In the Stockholm, Skåne, Uppsala and Östergötland regions as well as in the Västra Götaland region, the IVA staff has had their holiday as planned this summer.

These are all of the five regions surveyed.

This spring, it was uncertain whether the hospitals would cope with the pressure of the corona pandemic and vaccination during the summer period, and that everyone would get their holiday as planned.

But those fears have not been realized for the staff in intensive care in the five populous regions.

Manageable location

- At the beginning of the summer, the load was very hard, but from midsummer the situation has normalized and today it is manageable.

It is about like a normal summer, says Nina Widfeldt, emergency physician in the Västra Götaland region.

At the adult level in the Västra Götaland region, everyone who wanted to could take four consecutive weeks off.

Before the summer, the staff was given the choice to only take out three weeks this summer, against a financial compensation of SEK 16,000.

- Some took that chance.

It makes it easier for the staff during the summer, says Nina Widfeldt.

"Single covid patients"

The Stockholm region does not yet have an overview of the holiday situation, but three of the largest hospitals in the region, Danderyd Hospital, Karolinska University Hospital and Södersjukhuset, have succeeded in meeting holiday wishes.

“We have enough care places and staff to take care of the patients who come to us in need of higher care. We have a few isolated patients with covid-19 on IVA, ”writes Sanaz Shafiei, acting head of operations Anesthesia and Intensive Care at Danderyd Hospital in an email to SVT.
