02 August 2021The declarations of vote on the confidence placed by the government on the bill that reforms the criminal trial have begun in the Chamber. There will be two votes of confidence with an explanation of vote.

The Minister of Justice, Marta Cartabia, is present in the Chamber, sitting in the government benches.

The long night of the vote

The go-ahead will arrive in the middle of the night by the Chamber to the 'double' confidence placed by the Executive on the two articles-maxi amendments which constitute, following the latest Government-majority confrontation, the draft law for the efficiency of the criminal process.

The Assembly, which met at 8.45 pm, will start the voting procedures starting at 10.30 pm (with the related explanations of vote scheduled from 8.45 pm), while the final vote at first reading is expected for tomorrow, Tuesday, ( the bill will be examined by the Senate when parliamentary work resumes after the summer break).

The so-called Cartabia reform sets, among other things, two years from 2025 for the celebration of the appeal and one year for the Supreme Court with a transitional phase, in force until 31 December 2024, within which the terms will be longer. for all the processes ordered, with the possibility of a total extension of up to 6 years between appeal and Cassation.

But for mafia-related crimes, terrorism, sexual violence and drug trafficking there will be no limit to the extensions (which must in any case be motivated by the judge).
