Jordan: Restructuring academic programs in line with the labor market

The Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Muhammad Abu Quddis, revealed the approval of the system of integrating e-learning in higher education institutions, to implement it in a manner that guarantees the restructuring of academic programs, and commensurate with the requirements of integrating e-learning in them and the requirements of the labor market.

In exclusive statements to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), the day before yesterday, he said that the system issued in accordance with the provisions of Article (6) and Article (13) of the Higher Education Law No. (17) of 2018 and its amendments obliges higher education institutions to restructure academic programs and subject plans. In line with the requirements for integrating e-learning into it, with its two parts “distance and integrated” and the requirements of the diversified program, in accordance with Article (3/a) of the system.

He pointed out that Article (3/a) of the system includes the integration of complete e-learning materials at a distance, with no more than 20% and no less than 10% of the total number of credit hours for the full face-to-face program for all disciplines, and the integration of blended learning materials. Not more than 60%, and not less than 40% for the humanitarian and social majors, and not more than 50%, and not less than 30% for the scientific, technical, health and medical majors of the total number of credit hours for the full face-to-face program, provided that the percentage is studied The remaining percentage shall not be less than 20% for the humanitarian and social majors, and not less than 30% for the scientific, technical, health and medical majors out of the number of credit hours through face-to-face learning materials.

He added that these percentages are distributed on the levels of subjects in the plans of academic programs for all academic years, noting that despite what was stated in paragraph (a) of this article to the Council and based on the recommendation of the accreditation body, one or more programs were excluded from the previous ratios.
