In Switzerland, more than 2,500 small fawns have been rescued from agricultural machinery this year.

Each mowing season poses a threat to small animals, which remain motionless in the fields to escape predators.

According to the Swiss channel

RTS

, nearly 3,000 fawns die in these conditions every year in Switzerland.

The association Sauvetage Faons Suisse, located in the Swiss canton of Vaud, has therefore decided to act to protect them, reports

BFM TV

, Friday.

It has thus equipped itself with a state-of-the-art drone, equipped with a thermal camera.

Each day, the craft flies over about 30,000 hectares of fields to spot the fawns.

An expensive but very effective method, according to the association

When an animal is detected, it is then protected with a wooden crate during the passage of the agricultural machine.

According to the volunteers of the association, this method is certainly expensive but much more effective than a simple beat on foot.

In a statement released on Friday, Sauvetage Faons Suisse announced that the use of drones had saved exactly 2,569 small animals this year.

Almost twice as many as last year, specifies the Swiss channel.

In addition, the association offers its services free of charge to 600 local farmers.

In addition to causing the death of small animals, these accidents can also have repercussions, including serious health consequences, on crops and livestock.
