Öland has been a tourist mecca for many years, but it was only this year that the municipality began to take an interest in the issue of lifeguards - and then on the initiative of the Kalmar swimming club.

The head of the municipality, Jens Odevall, does not know why the issue has not been discussed before.

- It is everyone's interest and our own responsibility to make sure that we behave as we should when bathing.

Do not swim alone, do not swim too far out and do not go out into unknown waters where you do not know how the currents move.

Lifeguard to Köpingsvik

From next summer, the municipality hopes that they will be able to have lifeguards and guard towers in place in Köpingebukten.

- We will have a couple of towers out with the beach here, so you get a good overview of the bathers, says Jens Odevall.

Hear him tell more in the clip above.

No lifeguards in Mörbylånga

In Mörbylånga municipality, the question of whether there should be lifeguards on the beaches has so far not been raised.

- We have not ended up in the situation that we are faced with a fact.

We always do an evaluation when the season is over and this season is not over yet, says Eleonor Rosenqvist, culture and leisure director in Mörbylånga municipality.
