Since the start of the withdrawal of foreign troops, which will be completed at the end of August, the Taliban have launched a major offensive against government forces and have gained large swathes of Afghan territory.

They are tightening their grip on three major cities in the country, Herat, Kandahar and Lashkar Gah where the fighting is raging.

The current situation is due to the sudden decision

" of Washington, declared Monday, August 2 the Afghan president in front of the elected representatives of the Parliament.

Ashraf Ghani accuses the United States of having "

imported

" a peace process and of having legitimized the Taliban by signing an agreement with them in Doha in February 2020.

The deal was sealed between Washington and religious fundamentalists without the Afghan government being consulted or included in the process.

The Afghan president even accuses Washington of having pushed for “

the destruction of the Republic

 ”.

In Afghanistan, in fact, the fall of the government in Kabul seems to be only a matter of time.

The Taliban are at the gates of several provincial capitals.

They even managed to penetrate the heart of Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province in the south of the country.

The fighting rages on.

26% of the injured are under 18, according to MSF

Médecins sans Frontières, which runs a hospital in the city, treated 70 patients for war injuries between July 29 and July 31.

Over the past three months, the NGO says it has treated nearly 500 people injured by gunshot or shrapnel.

No less than 26% of the injured are under 18 years old.

Sick people on the way to the hospital are caught in an exchange of fire and arrive with gunshot wounds in the emergency room, MSF staff said in an open letter.

The situation is only getting worse every day across the country.
