01 August 2021 A joy and a disappointment open the ninth day of the Italia Team at the Tokyo Olympic Games. The joy came from the Acquatics Center, with a splendid bronze conquered by the boys of the mixed 4x100.

Thomas Ceccon, Nicolo 'Martinenghi, Federico Burdisso and Alessandro Miressi

raised the white flag only in front of the unbeatable United States, gold medal with the new world record, and Great Britain.

Great pride but no medal, however, for

Gregorio Paltrinieri

in the 1500s, conditioned by the difficult recovery from mononucleosis. Paltrinieri will return to the water on Thursday for the 10 km cross-country ski run, while for

Federica Pellegrini

the Olympic experience ended with the 4x100 mixed female relay, closed by the Italians in 6th place.

The big disappointment of the day instead concerned

fencing

again

, which closed an Olympics lacking in satisfactions (3 silvers and 2 bronzes) with the elimination of the men's foil team in the first round against Japan (45-43).

"The fencing went very badly - admitted the president of Coni

Giovanni Malagò

- Today was the last day to do something important and instead it embitters us so much not even being in the medal zone. This will surely involve some reflections".

Safe silver medal for

Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti

in Nacra 17. With a first and two second places in the last three races before the medal race, the Azzurri have increased their advantage over their rivals in the general classification: Tita-Banti now lead the classification with 23 points ahead of the British Gimson-Burnet (35 points) and the Germans Kohloff-Stuhlemmer (47 points). Even if they finish last in the medal race, the Azzurri would finish at 45 points, in any case at least in second place. To be sure of the gold, however, in the final regatta scheduled for Tuesday Tita and Banti must finish in the first six positions.

To close the Japanese morning came the qualifications of Sara Fantini in the final of the hammer throw and of Davide Re in the semifinals of the 400, while Edoardo Scotti was eliminated.
