01 August 2021 The leader of the Burmese military junta, Min Aung Hlaing, confirmed that multi-party elections will be held in the country for six months under military control and said that his government is ready to work together with a special envoy appointed by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The Guardian reports it. In a televised speech, Min Aung Hlaing did not indicate a date for the elections, but in early April the junta spokesman, Zaw Min Tun, said they will be held within two years.
