The Supreme Commander of the country's Armed Forces, Senior General Min Aung Hlain will take over as Prime Minister.

In May, the United States imposed a series of sanctions against the Myanmar State Administrative Council and a number of senior officials.

Prior to that, in March, the US trade mission suspended all contacts with the country under a trade and investment agreement that was concluded between the countries in 2013.

On March 22, the European Union imposed sanctions against ten representatives of the high military command and the head of the Myanmar election commission.
