The World Health Organization warned of the mutated delta of the SARS-Covid-2 virus that causes the Corona virus, while China monitored today, Saturday, new epidemiological foci of the virus, amid a record rise in deaths in some countries.

The international organization said that the new version is a warning to the world to move to quickly suppress the epidemic, before it turns again into something worse.

The highly contagious mutant was first discovered in India, and the World Health Organization said it has now appeared in 132 regions and is partly responsible for an 80% increase in coronavirus deaths in Africa over the past four weeks.

"Four alarming species have so far emerged, and there will be more as long as the virus continues to spread," said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The virus has become more effective, it has become faster, and the plan to deal with it is still the same, but we need to implement it more efficiently and effectively than we did before.

new spots

For its part, the Chinese authorities announced - today, Saturday - that they had detected new epidemiological hotspots for the Corona virus in two additional regions, one of which includes a city with a population of 31 million people, in the most serious outbreak of the virus that the Asian giant has witnessed in months.

The National Health Commission said that new infections with the virus were detected in Fujian Province and Chongqing Municipality, adding these two regions to the capital, Beijing, and 4 other provinces where infections with the mutated Corona virus were previously reported.

The number of new infections recorded in these regions combined reached 55, bringing the number of infections recorded in China to more than 200 since July 20, when the first epidemic outbreak was detected in the eastern Jiangsu Province, with 9 employees at Nanjing Airport confirmed infected with the virus.

Today, the authorities in Nanjing have ordered all tourist attractions and cultural places not to open their doors, due to the high rate of infection at the national level.

The authorities imposed a quarantine on hundreds of thousands of residents in Jiangsu Province, of which Nanjing is the capital, while the city subjected its 9.2 million residents to two examinations.

US restrictions

US President Joe Biden suggested that the United States would soon issue recommendations or impose new health restrictions to confront Covid-19, at the same time welcoming the return of the vaccination wheel to spinning quickly in the country.

However, Biden did not mention - in a press conference - the type of measures he was talking about, at a time when the US federal authorities, as well as local officials and companies, began to tighten health protocols.

In the face of the rapidly spreading mutated Delta, the American authorities recommended their citizens who are in places where the virus is widespread, to put masks indoors, even if they are fully vaccinated.

third dose

In Israel, the authorities have started a campaign to give a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to people aged 60 and over.

Israel was one of the first countries to launch a large-scale vaccination campaign last December, thanks to an agreement with Pfizer that enabled it to quickly obtain millions of doses in return for providing the giant pharmaceutical company with medical data about the effects of the vaccine.

The vaccination campaign allowed Israel to reduce the number of daily infections from about 10,000 to less than 100, and to move the wheel of its economy again and partially reopen its borders.

With the increasing spread of the delta mutator, there are voices of the need to take a third booster dose to combat the virus, as medical experts concluded that the resistance to the virus declines relatively even among those who have received a full vaccination against the Corona virus.

In Tunisia, the authorities - which are facing great difficulty in dealing with a new wave of Covid-19 infections - received yesterday, Friday, one million doses of Moderna vaccines, donated by the United States, according to what the US embassy in Tunisia announced.

Tunisia is facing a critical situation, as it is unable to stop a new wave of infections, and its hospitals lack oxygen.

This small Maghreb country of about 12 million people has one of the worst official death rates in the world with Covid-19, with a total of 19,000 deaths.

Standard height

Thailand recorded a record number of new infections with the Corona virus, as it reached 18,912 cases today, Saturday, bringing the total number to 597,287 infections.

The Asian country also recorded a new record number of daily deaths from the virus at 178, bringing the total number of deaths since the outbreak of the epidemic to 4,857 deaths.

In Colombia, the number of deaths caused by Corona exceeded the 120 thousand people, after recording 306 cases during the past 24 hours.

In Brazil, during the past 24 hours, 963 new deaths from the Corona virus were recorded, as well as about 41,000 infections.
