Variety, award to Barbera and the Biennale for excellence

July 30, 2021 Variety will present its

to Alberto Barbera and the Venice Biennale in a ceremony to be held at the Venice Film Festival next month.

It is the first time that the US specialized magazine awards an organization with this laurel.

In selecting Barbera for the award, Variety's Steven Gaydos said: "The Venice Film Festival has always pursued excellence in international cinema. The last decade under the leadership of Alberto Barbera has continued this tradition, but has also added the new dimension of Hollywood glamor, namely the relevance of a film awards season and a creative vitality that make these years of his tenure one of the most exciting periods in the illustrious history of the festival ".

And he concludes: "We have never honored a festival director or film festival before, but it is entirely legitimate that Alberto Barbera and the Biennale are the first to have this recognition."
