July 30, 2021 A former security guard, who killed nine cats by stabbing them at night, was sentenced to more than five years in prison in the UK.

Steve Bouquet, 54, attacked 16 cats, killing nine, between late 2018 and mid-2019 in Brighton, 50 miles south of London.

He was framed after the owner of one of the dead cats installed a security camera.

Bouquet denied involvement in the attacks, but prosecutors said a photo of a dead cat was found on his phone and a knife with feline blood and Bouquet's DNA was found during a search of his home.

Bouquet was found guilty after a trial for possession of a knife in public and 16 counts of criminal damages in relation to cats. The owners of some of Bouquet's victims were at Hove Crown Court on Friday to see his sentencing. Judge Jeremy Gold said Bouquet's behavior was "cruel". Attorney Jayne Cioffi said "none of us can understand what prompted Bouquet to do this to pets." "It was a tragic case for all the owners involved. Not only did Steve Bouquet inflict horrendous suffering on each of the animals he attacked, but he also caused real trauma to their owners, many of whom found their beloved pets injured. and bleeding, "he said.
