After the restoration of inter-Korean communication lines, the government is hastening to take follow-up measures. The government has proposed to North Korea to build a video conference system, but the possibility of a video summit is being discussed even if not immediately.

Minister of Unification Lee In-young, who volunteered for a press conference, disclosed the fact of the proposal to North Korea.

[Lee In-yeong/Minister of Unification: Yesterday, our side proposed to the North through our liaison office to discuss the issue of establishing a video conference system.] As

face-to-face talks are difficult due to COVID-19, we are going to prepare a non-face-to-face conference system.

The Ministry of Unification has already set up a video conferencing system at the Seoul Inter-Korean Summit Headquarters in April, and non-face-to-face talks are possible as long as North Korea responds.

[Kim Chang-hyeon/Director of the Inter-Korean Talks Headquarters of the Ministry of Unification (April demonstration): It seems to be comparable to the face-to-face meeting. If the video meeting is held tomorrow, I think the meeting will go well.] A

high-ranking official at the Ministry of Unification said that although no inter-Korean summit has been discussed so far, the possibility of a summit is always open.

If inter-Korean dialogue is on track, it seems to mean that the summit will be possible again within the term of President Moon Jae-in.

Considering the corona situation, the possibility of a video summit is also being discussed.

A high-ranking official said that he had selected nearly 30 agendas to discuss with North Korea, and said that he thinks that vaccine support for North Korea should also be included on the agenda, assuming the Korean people's collective immunity and public consensus.

The official, who said it would be better to postpone the South Korea-US joint exercise next month, said that the reunion of separated families on Chuseok should be discussed in advance, and that video reunions do not require much preparation time.

The Ministry of Unification also approved the export of goods for humanitarian cooperation to North Korea, which has been suspended since the murder of a public official in the West Sea last September.
