The Frankfurt cider fair CiderWorld has always looked beyond the edge of the ribbed.

After all, the world of cider and even more so that of other fruit wines is vast.

The fair, which is held annually in the Gesellschaftshaus Palmengarten, owes its special flair to its international guests, who underline the remarkable diversity in this beverage segment with their products.

Because trade fairs with international participation can hardly be planned sensibly due to the pandemic, the organizers around Michael Stöckl had to cancel CiderWorld this year, as they did last year.

However, connoisseurs do not have to completely forego new taste discoveries, because the fair will be offering online tastings in the coming weeks, for which different boxes with selected apple and other fruit wines - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic - can be ordered.

With the respective boxes, the customers receive codes for videos in which Stöckl and experts present the specialties in a professional manner.

Information on the tastings, the respective contents of the boxes and the times at which the YouTube videos are activated can be found at cider-world.de/shop.

176 products from 17 countries submitted for evaluation

In this way, there is also the opportunity to taste various fruit wines that have been awarded at this year's “CiderWorld'21 Award”, a competition that the fair has been holding since 2018 with the scientific advice of the Beverage Technology Institute of the Geisenheim University. This time, 176 products from 77 producers from 17 countries on three continents were submitted for evaluation in order to come close to the highest score of 120 in seven categories.

Three Hessian representatives have also achieved this number: The Karbener Manufaktur Pomolo Obstweine won a gold medal in the “Non-alcoholic Cider” category with an alcohol-free apple and quince secco, as did Jürgen Krenzer from the Rhön region in the “Ice Cider” category his “ApfelSherry whiskey barrel noble sweet” and the Bensheim-based producer von Wiesen, who received an award in the “Sparkling Cider flavored” category for a Brut 2019 sparkling quince wine.
