The Libyan Joint Military Committee (5+5) announced the opening of the coastal road between the cities of Sirte and Misurata, after talks that lasted for two days in the city of Sirte.

The committee renewed its call for the national unity government to appoint a defense minister and to implement the UN Security Council resolution to withdraw mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya.

Major General Khairy Al-Tamimi said that securing the road will be within the jurisdiction of the Military Committee, with a number of officers assigned to monitor the implementation of the agreement.

The Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba, had opened the coastal road in the middle of last June, but the road was not officially opened because the road was secured and repaired.

Dabaiba said the opening of the coastal road is a new step in building and unifying the country.
