Covid-19 in France: new contaminations on the rise

In France, new coronavirus contaminations are on the rise: they have doubled compared to last week.

It is young people aged 10 to 39 who become infected the most.

Even if the entire French territory is mainly affected by the Delta variant, large disparities exist.

The most affected metropolitan regions are those which receive the most tourists, namely: Occitanie, New Aquitaine and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

Guadeloupe and Martinique overwhelmed by the virus

But it is

especially in Overseas Territories

that the situation is worrying, particularly on the islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique where the hospital tension is increasingly strong.

For example, no resuscitation bed is available in establishments in Martinique.

Despite the summer season and the resumption of cultural and leisure activities, Public Health France calls on the French not to relax the barrier gestures and always encourages more to be vaccinated.

At present, 50% of French people are fully vaccinated.

A figure which plummets in Martinique and Guadeloupe barely reaching 17% and which is still too insufficient among health personnel in particular. 

But without darkening the picture, the authorities hope that the population, having learned this year to be vigilant against the virus, will be able to take the measure of the epidemic resumption.
